Altrusa hosts fashion show

The fifth annual Spring Fashion Show and Tea, with live flowering plants for sale, will be held from 2 to 3 p.m. April 5 at the Elks Lodge, 4444 N. Crossover Road in Fayetteville.

Event proceeds will go to the Northwest Arkansas EOA Children's House.

Writing school offers seminar

A full-day writing workshop, "The Word and the Sentence," will be offered from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 15 at Village Writing School in Eureka Springs.

The workshop will take place at Village Writing School, 177 Huntsville Road in Eureka Springs. Preregistration is required, and class size is limited.

Cost is $45.

Architect speaks at university

Jonathan Segal will present a lecture titled "Architect as Developer" at 6 p.m. Monday in Ken and Linda Sue Shollmier Hall, Room 250, of Vol Walker Hall on the University of Arkansas campus in Fayetteville, as part of the Fay Jones School of Architecture lecture series.

This is the Leadership in Design Lecture, sponsored by ZweigWhite LLC.

Scotsman speaks at Osher Institute

The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at University of Arkansas will host the Right Honorable Henry McLeish at a special public presentation March 11. Doors open at 5 p.m., and McLeish's lecture begins at 5:30 p.m. McLeish, who served as Scotland's first minister during the period of the 911 attacks in the U.S., will address current issues in Scotland, Europe and the Middle East.

The event is free and will be held in the auditorium at the University of Arkansas Global Campus located on 2 E. Center St. in Fayetteville. Free parking will be available on the third level of the parking deck behind the Chancellor Hotel.

Cherokee Choir sings March 16

The Cherokee National Youth Choir will present a concert at 3 p.m. March 16 at the First United Methodist Church, 20 Boyce Drive in Bella Vista.

The choir is made up of 30 Cherokee young people from Northeastern Oklahoma communities. Members are middle and high school youth between sixth and 12 grades. The choir acts as ambassadors for the Cherokee Nation.

Nonprofit startup March 18 at FPL

The Arkansas Department of Human Services is partnering with the Fayetteville Public Library's Non Profit Resource Center to offer the seminar "Starting a Tax-Exempt Nonprofit in Arkansas." The seminar will be held from 9 a.m. to noon March 18 in the library's Walker Community Room. The seminar is free, but registration is required.

Michael Brouri and Drew Buffington from the Division of Community Service and Nonprofit Support will help participants learn the steps necessary in applying for 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status.

Art instructor travels to Italy

Carol Cooper, NorthWest Arkansas Community College art instructor, will lead a two-week watercolor workshop in Italy this summer.

The workshop, titled "The Multi-Media Experience in Italy," will be July 8-22 at La Romita, a 300-year-old monastery that has been transformed into an art school. Participants will be working in watercolor but also will study sketching and mixed media. Students will be driven to a different hill town every day to paint and will return each afternoon or evening to the monastery. The chapel is the studio space.

Cost is $3,790, which includes all ground transportation, meals, lodging and instruction. Airfare is separate, and the flight will leave July 7 and arrive in Rome on July 8. The class is for students 18 and older.

Library presents Lunch & Learn

The Rogers Public Library will host its Second Tuesday Lunch & Learn at noon Tuesday in the community room.

The topic will be "Encore Entrepreneurs: Starting a Business Over 50."
