A Springdale man was arrested early Friday morning after apparently shooting and killing his mother, according to a news release from the Springdale Police Department.

Scott Rocha, 36, now faces a capital murder charge, said Lt. Derek Hudson.

Officers responded to 3547 Loblolly place for a report that Scott Rocha, 36, was threatening suicide, according to the news release. Nobody answered the door, but officers looking inside saw a large amount of blood and went inside. Rocha came out of a bedroom and told officers he had accidentally shot his mother, Frances Rocha, 65, according to the news release.

However, a further investigation revealed that the shooting was not accidental, according to a subsequent news release.

She was dead at the scene with a gunshot wound. The investigation is continuing, according to the news release.
