Public Viewpoint: Taking A Trip Down POA Memory Lane

As we must decide to vote “Yes” or “No” to the upcoming Property Owners Association assessment increase issue, let’s take a little trip down memory lane.

  1. Let’s begin with the Arkansas/Missouri land deal. It cost us $1.1 million and we didn’t even get to vote on it, which is in violation of our own POA policies.

  2. Then there was the use of non-taxed gasoline, which is a violation of IRS laws. We were lucky to not have to pay a big fine on that one.

  3. Don’t forget that our fire hydrants had not been inspected for 12 years.

  4. And, never forget the Roger Norbeck vs. Cooper Inc. trial alleging that microlots created by Cooper swung the POA board election. Mr. Norbeck won, but the trial cost us all a lot of money.

  5. Then there was the Jim Parsons vs. POA trial where Jim Parsons was asking to see some records and the POA sued him for “harassment.” Parsons won, but it cost us all over $100,000.

  6. Next was the Jim Parsons vs. POA water shut-off trial. The argument was that if you pay your water bill you should get water. Getting behind in your assessment payments shouldn’t affect your getting water. We will run that issue again soon.

Fortunately in Bella Vista, we have a glut of retired attorneys from all over America who know better and are willing to give advice as to how to bring justice to some of these bizarre court rulings. Some of the lawyers who have retired here received their law degrees from schools like Harvard, Yale, Notre Dame and other prestigious law schools. One attorney that tutors the Patriots currently does research and writes opinions for the United States Supreme Court.

The POA is exchanging thousands of dollars of advertising money with KFSM and KNWA television stations without any contracts or fi nancial written agreements of any kind. When asked about this, the POA board members have all signed an oath to not talk to the members, neighbors or friends. If you ask them too much, they will probably threaten you with harassment.

My question is: If the POA bucket has big holes in it, will it do any good to increase the amount of money we pour in it?
