FAYETTEVILLE -- A Missouri man died Friday after he was hit by a car on Interstate 540 in Benton County.

Arkansas State Police identified the man as David P. Moessner, 52, of Ballwin, Mo., according to a fatal accident report.

Investigators said Janet R.G. Hill, 74, of Springdale was heading south in a 2013 Chevrolet Malibu about 9:30 p.m.

Traffic was stop and go because of another accident and Hill was about to rear-end a car in front of her near mile marker 77, according to the report.

Hill swerved to the west shoulder and hit Moessner, according to the report.

Hill was taken to Washington Regional Medical Center. She wasn't listed as a patient in the hospital's roster Saturday.
