Kara Quinton didn't waste it.

The senior guard went back to the free-throw line to complete an odd two-shot opportunity, and she hit the second attempt to give West Fork a wacky 33-32 victory in Class 3A Region 1 Tournament semifinal action.

"I've coached for 20 years, and I've never seen that happen," West Fork coach Rodney Selph said. "It was a weird situation, but luckily Kara stepped up and hit that free throw."

West Fork (14-10) had a 32-30 lead when Quinton was fouled in the closing moments of overtime, and it was Danville's 10th foul, meaning Quinton was supposed to get two shots. She missed the first one, then Danville (17-12) rebounded and took off with the ball.

Jacy Green appeared to have tied the game when she hit a 17-footer just before the buzzer sounded, but it was then when Selph addressed the officials and let them know Quinton should have taken a second free throw.

After a lengthy discussion, the senior was sent back to the line, and her free throw hit nothing but net.

"Honestly, I wasn't even thinking about it. I thought I had a one-and-one," Quinton said. "I didn't know we had the two-shot foul. I was thinking that if we were going into double overtime, we were going to win this game.

"We were giving each other pep talks on the bench, and all of a sudden coach comes over and tells me I'm shooting another free throw. I was just thinking that this was do-or-die. We were going to play hard in overtime, but I was like 'I'll make it easier for all of us."

That weird sequence of events overshadowed the oddities that sent the game into an extra 4 minutes. West Fork had a 30-29 lead when Danville's Savannah Hodges had the ball knocked out of her hands before the buzzer sounded.

An official called for 0.5 seconds to be put on the clock, then Hodges was fouled on the floor for a one-and-one. She hit the first free throw to tie the game, but her second attempt went short.

Olivia Karnes had nine points and Griffin eight for West Fork, which advanced to today's 6 p.m. championship game against Paris. Lauren Spencer led Danville with 12 points.

Paris 49, Mansfield 33

Paris cruised into the championship game as the Lady Eagles jumped out to a 17-2 lead in the first quarter and were never threatened.

Lycia Peevy had 12 to lead a balanced attack for Paris (26-6). Kaylie Pyles paced Mansfield (17-14) with 13.

BOYS

West Fork 49, Cedarville 47

William Roebke's bucket with 1 minute, 48 seconds remaining put West Fork (18-11) ahead to stay, and the Tigers held on to advance to the boys title game.

Zach Hutchinson scored 12 of his 14 points in the second half to lead West Fork, while Ryan Roebke added 11. Garrett Parsons paced Cedarville (20-9) with 26 points.

Charleston 67, Elkins 33

Charleston stormed out to a 20-8 lead and forced the entire fourth quarter to be played under the sportsmanship rules with the running clock.

Matthew Wardi had 23 points to lead the Tigers (27-5), while Chance Shelby added 11 and Ty Storey chipped in 10. Walker Fallen led Elkins (13-10) with 10 points.
