CAC shuts down Bauxite

NASHVILLE — Central Arkansas Christian found a way to bottleneck Bauxite’s prolific Ben Madison and knocked down its three-point shots to defeat the Miners 47-27 Friday in the 4A South Regional at Scrapper Arena.

CAC (16-14) won for the fourth time in as many tries against 4A-7 member Bauxite (16-14) and will play Monticello or Nashville tonight.

Madison, who averages 30 points a game, was limited to three first-half points and 15 for the game after making 5 of 15 shots . He played much of the game in foul trouble, picking up his fourth with 4:25 to play in the third quarter.

“Any time you have a scorer like Ben, who can score in bunches, you’re dangerous,” CAC Coach Matt Hall said. “We did by far our best defensive job on him all year. It was great timing, and I was proud of them.”

CAC made 3 three-pointers for a 9-0 lead and was never pushed from there. Davis Allen, who had the primary responsibility of guarding Madison, also did most of the damage from three-point range, hitting 4 of 5 for 12 of his team-high 15 points.

“I would have never dreamed we would have started three for three [on three-pointers],” Hall said. “That shifted all the momentum to us early, which was good for our kids.”

Joseph Strange had 14 points and Stephen Flanagan grabbed 10 rebounds.
