FAYETTEVILLE — Chuck Barrett, who helped build the Arkansas baseball network from the ground up, will no longer serve as play-by-play voice of the Diamond Hogs.
Barrett announced Monday he is stepping away from the Razorbacks' baseball broadcasts after 23 seasons. Barrett will remain the play-by-play voice for Arkansas' football and men's basketball games.
“It has been an honor and a privilege to broadcast Razorback baseball for more than two decades,” Barrett said. “I have enjoyed watching the Razorback baseball program grow from its early stages in the SEC to the national prominence it now enjoys. I am appreciative to Coach Norm DeBriyn, Coach Dave Van Horn, the hundreds of Razorback players and all those associated with Razorback baseball who helped make the past 23 years so enjoyable."
Barrett began announcing Arkansas baseball games in 1992 and has called more than 1,250 games since. He was considered one of the top baseball broadcasters in the Southeastern Conference and has been named the Arkansas Sportscaster of the Year three times.
Since being hired as the university's director of broadcasting in 2007, Barrett's duties have expanded to include play-by-play for football broadcasts beginning that year and basketball broadcasts beginning in 2010. Barrett will continue to host coaches shows for football and basketball.
IMG College, the multimedia rights holder for Razorbacks athletics, will conduct a national search to replace Barrett for baseball broadcasts.
