Fiddle queen of Arkansas

An official state treasure, Violet Hensley, 97, not only plays fiddle, she has built 73 of them from scratch.

At 97, Violet Hensley is proud of her strong grip, developed and maintained by a life of hard work. A luthier, or maker of fiddles, Hensley was named an Arkansas Living Treasure in 1994 by the Arkansas Arts Council. The award honors Arkansans who have been outstanding in the creation of a traditional craft and have significantly contributed to its preservation.

YELLVILLE -- It's Wednesday morning, a bright, sunny day, and much of what's important in Violet Hensley's life is in her kitchen.
