BENTONVILLE -- A Pineville, Mo., man has been found fit to stand trial in connection with shooting a woman in the face.

Orville Mitchell Goodwin, 62, is charged with attempted capital murder and aggravated robbery, both Class Y felonies. He could be sentenced from 10 to 40 years or life imprisonment if convicted.

Goodwin is being held in the Benton County Jail on a $750,000 bond.

The case had been suspended pending the outcome of a mental evaluation for Goodwin. The evaluation found Goodwin is fit to stand trial.

Annette Rapalee, 54, of Jane, Mo., was found a half mile from her home by two men on horseback May 11, 2013. Rapalee had been beaten and shot in the face, according to court documents.

She was taken to a Springfield, Mo., hospital and later released to a rehabilitation facility.

Rapalee had one gunshot wound to her face and a bruise on her chest consistent with a person's shoe or boot, according to court documents.

Bella Vista Police Chief Ken Farmer said Goodwin and Rapalee were acquaintances.

A neighbor told police she last saw Rapalee on May 9 after Rapalee received a $500 check from her late husband's estate. The neighbor told police she believed Goodwin met Rapalee at her home on May 10 to take her to cash the check.

Goodwin's next court appearance is July 31.
