UA's Poche sidelined by Tommy John surgery

Arkansas pitcher Colin Poche will miss the 2015 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery Monday, Coach Dave Van Horn said Wednesday.

Van Horn said Poche will stay in his hometown of Flower Mound, Texas, to rehab from the surgery and that he could be out up to 18 months and might not return to Arkansas.

"He's going to take some classes there and he might even end up at another school," Van Horn said. "That's still all up in the air."

Poche, a left-hander, would be a redshirt junior if he returned to college for the 2016 season. He also will be draft-eligible next June.

Poche compiled a 3.00 ERA last season in 18 appearances, including 8 starts. He struggled during conference play, particularly during his final three outings when he allowed seven runs over 4 1/3 innings at Missouri and against LSU twice at the SEC Tournament.

Hogs' Killian shines for Team USA

Arkansas junior Trey Killian recorded seven strikeouts in three innings as Team USA routed the Wilson Tobs 14-2 on Wednesday night at Fleming Stadium in Wilson, N.C.

Killian, a 6-2 right-hander, faced 11 batters and surrendered 2 hits and 1 earned run in what will likely be his only appearance before the roster is trimmed to 24 spots Sunday. He did not allow a walk.

Staked to a 3-0 lead before he took the mound in the bottom of the first inning, Killian cooled Wilson's bats quickly by striking out the side on 14 pitches. Team USA led 4-0 when the Tobs rallied for a run in the second inning on Taylor Nichols' single, a double by Ben Schmucker and a run-scoring groundout.

Killian also struck out all three Wilson batters in the third inning to wrap up his 47-pitch performance and give way to Bailey Ober of the College of Charleston, who also pitched three innings. Killian allowed one fly ball out, and catcher Taylor Ward of Fresno State threw out a runner trying to steal second.
