BASEBALL

Killian gets start for Team USA

Arkansas right-hander Trey Killian will start for Team USA tonight in the fifth game of its Red, White and Blue Tour of games on the East Coast.

Killian, a 6-2 junior from Mountain Home, will take the mound against the Wilson Tobs, of the Coast Plains League, in Wilson, N.C.

"My mentality is just to go out there and do what I have done all year," Killian said in a University of Arkansas release. "I can't really worry about if I make the team or not, I've just got to do my best every time out, and hopefully it's enough for the guys selecting the team."

Arkansas Coach Dave Van Horn is the head coach of the collegiate national team, and his assistants are Texas A&M's Rob Childress, New Mexico's Ray Birmingham and Pepperdine's Steve Rodriguez.

Killian had a 2.03 earned run average and 4-9 record in 94 innings for the Razorbacks.

Team USA took a 3-0 record into Tuesday's night game in Fayetteville, N.C. They have outscored their opponents 28-12.

The national team roster currently includes 33 players, though four of them play for Vanderbilt and Virginia, who reached the College World Series final this week in Omaha, Neb. The roster is scheduled to be trimmed to 24 players on Sunday.
