Reddie Stanley, one of three suspects police said were involved in the June 8 aggravated robbery of a man in Pulaski County, crashed the truck only a mile from the scene of the crime after being seen speeding away, according to Pulaski County sheriff's office reports.

Stanley, 24, was found pinned inside the crashed truck and had several broken bones. His sister, identified by investigators as Cloie Joles, 36, was found unconscious in the passenger seat.

Joles died while being taken to UAMS Medical Center in Little Rock, according to arrest affidavits.

Police said the third suspect, Elija Cooley, was arrested three days after the accident.

Both Stanley and Cooley have been charged with aggravated robbery and capital murder, accused of causing the death of another while committing a felony, sheriff's office officials said.

According to sheriff's office reports, the three had committed an ambush burglary earlier that night.

Shortly after 10 p.m., Havus Spann, 77, answered a knock at his home at 3300 W. Hensley Road and the woman at the door asked for help.

Investigators said Spann did not know any of the people who showed up at his home that night, but the people apparently know Spann as someone who often helped out people in the area.

Sheriff's office reports said the woman told Spann that her vehicle had just broken down outside his home.

When Spann opened the door, two men burst through, knocked Spann to the ground and then pepper-sprayed him.

The robbers took Spann's wallet, which had $400 cash inside, and sped off east on West Hensley Road in a dark pickup.

One of the suspects, Cooley, told investigators that Stanley was driving too fast and that he and Joles repeatedly had asked him to slow down, reports said.

The weather was rainy, and the roads were wet, according to crash reports; the truck went out of control in a curve in the 4900 block of West Hensley Road and veered off the roadway, crashing into a tree.

While Stanley and Joles were pinned inside the truck, Cooley told investigators he got out and ran to a nearby house to call his dad for help.

Arrest affidavits said Cooley told his father that he had just been in an all-terrain vehicle crash and needed help.

When deputies searched the truck, they said they found Spann's wallet and the $400, reports said.

Cooley was treated at a hospital and released June 12, and deputies arrested him. He eventually admitted to detectives that he took part in the robbery of Spann along with the others, affidavits said.

Cooley remained at the Pulaski County jail Tuesday where he was being held with bail set at $3 million.

After his initial court appearance Tuesday morning, Stanley also remained at the jail Tuesday night. No bail had been set.
