American Legion picks state leader

Jake Greeling of Bella Vista has been elected the 2014-15 state commander of Arkansas' largest veterans organization.

He was elected state commander of the American Legion for Arkansas on the final day of the 96th Arkansas State Convention in North Little Rock.

Before his election as state commander, Greeling served as the Northwest area vice commander for the American Legion Department of Arkansas.

Greeling, 71, joined the American Legion in 2004. He has served in several roles, including American Legion Post 341 post commander, first vice commander, department historian and commander of the Veterans Honor Guard of Bella Vista.

He enlisted in the U.S. Army in November 1962 and entered active duty March 17, 1963, according to an American Legion news release. He served in what was then West Germany, where he was assigned to the third brigade of the 3rd Armored Division, and he was a squad leader in the Armored Cavalry Platoon.
