Timothy Buffington, 47, left his work assignment early Saturday evening, said Department of Correction communications administrator Shea Wilson. Buffington is designated as a trusty, a prisoner who is granted special privileges because of good behavior.

As of Saturday night, Department of Correction officers and canines were searching for Buffington along Princeton Pike in the area surrounding the prison facilities. State and local law enforcement agencies were notified.

Buffington, who also goes by "Bo," was convicted of first-degree murder in Logan County in 1999 and sentenced to 20 years in prison, according to Department of Correction records.

He is a 5-foot-6, 182-pound white man with hazel eyes.
