3 die in accidents on Arkansas roads

Three people, including a 1-year-old child, died in separate car accidents Friday, according to Arkansas State Police.

The driver of a Chevy pickup backed out of a driveway in Springdale about 4 p.m. Friday and struck a 1-year-old who was in the street behind the vehicle, police said. The child, Andy Tonyokew of Springdale, was taken to Northwest Medical Center with critical injuries, according to a statement from the Springdale Police Department. He died a short time later.

The child was the driver's nephew, according to Arkansas State Police. Springdale police are investigating the accident.

An 83-year-old Camden man died in an accident at the intersection of Arkansas 7 and Arkansas 376 in Ouachita County on Friday night, according to police reports.

Theodore Jones Sr. was driving east on Arkansas 376 at 10:30 p.m. Friday. He failed to yield to traffic while crossing Arkansas 7 and drove into the path of a vehicle traveling north, police said. The two cars collided, and Jones was pronounced dead at the scene.

Reid Rogers, 17, of Camden was driving the vehicle that struck Jones'. He and a passenger, 16-year-old Taylor King of Camden, were taken to Ouachita County Medical Center with injuries.

A Little Rock man died Friday after hitting a guardrail on Arkansas 123, Arkansas State Police said.

Matias Serratos, 49, was southbound on Arkansas 123 in Newton County about 12:45 p.m. Friday when he veered off the road to the right, according to police reports. Serratos over corrected, crossed both lanes of traffic and struck a guardrail.

Serratos was pronounced dead at the scene.
