Runway Work Continues At Bentonville Airport

BENTONVILLE -- Recent rain has caused work on the municipal airport's runway to miss the completion deadline, Greg Shipley with Morrison Shipley reported to the Airport Advisory Board on Friday.

The new completion date is July 4, he said. "It may linger just a tad past that," Shipley said. "We figure in the next two weeks we'll be open."

The contractor has met expectations in its work despite the rain delays, he added. "Weather has been big issue on this project," Shipley said.

The airport will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday so markings can be put back in place, he said.

The runway has been closed from 7 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday through Friday since March 17 so work on the runway safety area could be done. The slopes on each side are being leveled to meet Federal Aviation Administration requirements.
