A Little Rock man arrested Thursday is accused of stealing a purse and cellphone from a hotel desk attendant, according to police.

Cornelius Darrell Ganaway Jr., 19, was served with a warrant and arrested at 11 a.m. Thursday after a robbery that took place last month, police said.

At 2:10 a.m. May 29, officers responded to reports of an armed robbery at Days Inn, 901 Fair Park Blvd. The hotel desk attendant told police that a man approached her and asked to use her cellphone to call a relative, police said. He made several calls, and then refused to give the phone back.

The man then grabbed the desk attendant's purse, which was lying on the counter, police said. A hotel security guard told officers that when he went after the robber, he acted like he was reaching for a gun and threatened to shoot them, according to reports. The suspect then left the scene.

After officers arrested him Thursday, Ganaway was taken to Pulaski County jail and released on $16,000 bond.

Suspect arrested in theft, pursuit

A Little Rock man arrested Thursday is accused of robbing a department store and fleeing from police earlier this week, according to police reports.

A loss prevention officer at Gordmans, 2616 S. Shackleford Road, notified police at 4:50 p.m. Sunday that she saw a man cutting the security tabs off merchandise and concealing the goods inside a comforter set. The officer chased the suspect as he ran outside and into the parking lot. As the officer reached for the merchandise, the man pushed the officer and threatened to kill her, police said. He then reached inside his vehicle, and the loss prevention officer told police she backed away in fear of being shot.

The robber was driving away as police arrived. Police pursued the suspect as he drove through the parking lot and turned north on Shackleford Road. After running a red light, the driver took the Interstate 430 north ramp, police said. He then took an exit onto Interstate 630 east. According to reports, the man was driving erratically and reached speeds of 90 to 100 mph. The officer stopped the pursuit because of traffic conditions and the speed of the chase.

Police used security footage from Gordmans to identify the suspect, and he also was positively identified in a photo spread, according to reports.

Kenneth Ray Robinson, 42, was arrested at 3:40 p.m. Thursday on suspicion of aggravated robbery and theft of property, both felony charges. He was no longer in the Pulaski County jail Friday night.

According to police, Robinson took $257 worth of merchandise.

Scuffle with police draws NLR arrest

A pedestrian was arrested Wednesday after initiating a fight with an officer, police said.

Bryan Matthews, 35, of North Little Rock, was interfering with traffic by walking in the road in the 2200 block of Railroad Avenue on Wednesday evening, police said. An officer attempted to stop Matthews, but he fled, according to reports.

The officer apprehended the man after a block-long chase. When the officer attempted to arrest Matthews, the man swung his fist toward the officer's face, police said. Matthews then "took an aggressive fighting stance, balled his fists," and began to approach the officer. The officer ordered Matthews to stop resisting and then used a baton to strike him twice on his left leg, authorities said.

When Matthews attempted to reach into his pocket, the officer used the baton to strike his hand, police said. Matthews continued to "swing and flail his arms" in the officer's direction. The officer arrested Matthews after striking him once more in the left leg, police said.

During the scuffle, a plastic bag containing pills fell out of Matthews' pocket, police said. Poison control later identified the pills as hydrocodone.

Matthews was arrested on charges of possession of a controlled substance, resisting arrest and fleeing. He is being held in Pulaski County jail in lieu of $6,000 bond.
