A man disarmed his shotgun-wielding attacker and fled Thursday after a romantic encounter between the two turned into a robbery, police reported.

Officers responded about 1:15 a.m. to the Kroger at 315 N. Shackleford Road, where Byron Wilbert had fled after the encounter. Wilbert, 26, told police he had just been at a nearby apartment with a man named Anthony.

The two had arranged a sexual liaison after texting for a week, according to an incident report. But things didn't go well in person, and Wilbert left the apartment after an argument.

As Wilbert was walking away, "Anthony" stuck a shotgun in his back and demanded his purse, according to the report. Wilbert reportedly grabbed the gun and took it away after a struggle in which one shot was fired.

Wilbert told police that as he drove away with the gun, "Anthony" chased him on foot yelling "give me my gun" and "I'll kill you," the report says. "Anthony" also hurled a rock through the passenger-side window, Wilbert said.

Police reported that the shotgun and five shells were recovered from Wilbert, who had several lacerations from the attack but was not seriously injured.

Officers searched the area for "Anthony," but no arrests were made. "Anthony" is described as black, 5 feet 8 inches tall, 165 pounds, between 23 and 30 years, and wore his hair braided.

Cadillac driver led chase, officers say

A man was arrested Thursday, accused of leading Little Rock police on a brief high-speed chase.

Officers began pursuing a speeding Cadillac DeVille about 6:10 p.m. on Baseline Road near Oman Road. The chase continued for about 3 miles as the car sped over curbs, ran stop lights and crashed through a gate at McClellan High School at 9417 Geyer Springs Road, according to a police report.

The Cadillac was traveling south on Chicot Road when it turned east onto Grove Lane, a dead end. That's where the driver jumped out and fled, but surrendered after trying to cross the waist-deep waters of a nearby creek, the report says.

Joe White, 41, was charged with fleeing, first-degree criminal mischief and multiple traffic violations including reckless driving and driving without insurance.

No injuries were reported in the chase.

White of Jacksonville was being held Thursday at the Pulaski County jail in lieu of $30,000 bond.

Fired worker said to brandish knives

After being fired from her job at a Little Rock nursing home earlier this month, a woman began swinging knives and threatening to kill her co-workers, police reported.

Deanna Beard, 24, was arrested Thursday and charged with seven counts of second-degree terroristic threatening.

On June 6, officers responded to Briarwood Nursing Home at 516 S. Rodney Parham Road, where Beard had purportedly refused to leave after being fired for insubordination. She's accused of grabbing two knives from the kitchen, swinging them and telling her former co-workers, "I just stabbed my husband this morning, I ain't scared to do it again," according to a court affidavit.

Beard also told nursing-home employees, "I'll catch y'all off the clock and take care of you," the affidavit says.

No injuries were reported.

Beard was being held Thursday in the Pulaski County jail in lieu of $25,000 bond.
