In the late '40s on hot Saturday evenings, our dad would drive us to the San Jacinto River in Humble, Texas, for a dip in the cool water.
Dad was in the water up to his waist when all of a sudden he grabbed his groin area with both hands. He let out a series of whoops while doing a little jig in the water.
When he made it to dry land, he pulled out a foot-long catfish. (The swim trunks were big legged back then.) Needless to say, dad enjoyed eating catfish while we looked on with envy eating bacon and eggs.
