Banking On Bass

My husband and I often spent many happy hours fishing, either from our canoe or from the bank. We were usually well rewarded for our efforts. Our most unusual experience happened one year during bass season.

We'd walked a good way up the river and were fishing, with only moderate success, on our way back to a favorite large fishing hole. The banks of the pool were already occupied by four or five veteran fishermen whom we joined.

My husband and I each caught a fish on our first cast and continued to be successful. The other unlucky fishermen changed their lures to what we were using, but to no avail. Within about 30 minutes we had filled our stringers while no one else had had even a nibble.

We left for home then, but could feel the barbed looks of the other fishermen as we laboriously scaled the cliff with our heavily loaded stringers.
