Widening Razorback Road Set To Begin In Fayetteville

FAYETTEVILLE -- A section of Razorback Road between Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Nettleship Drive is set to be widened beginning today, according to the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department.

The work will widen .35 miles to four lanes, installing a new storm drainage system, constructing curb, gutter and sidewalks and laying a new asphalt surface. A traffic signal and additional turn lane will be added at Razorback Road and Leroy Pond Drive.

The $2.2 million contract was awarded in February to Sweetser Construction of Fayetteville. The project is expected to be done by spring 2015.

Eventually, Razorback Road will be four lanes along Reynolds Razorback Stadium to Maple Street then around the corner and up the hill to Garland Avenue.

The stretch of Razorback being improved will eliminate a bottleneck and connect the four lanes of traffic south of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard with the four lanes on Garland. Construction is ongoing to widen Garland north of North Street.
