Bentonville/Bella Vista Chamber Officials 'Do My Job'

BENTONVILLE -- Two Bentonville/Bella Vista Chamber of Commerce officials will take on new jobs for a few hours today.

To launch the chamber's new program "Dana and Tammy Do My Job," Dana Davis and Tammy Thurow will perform entry-level duties from 5 to 8 p.m. at Chick-fil-A, 209 S. Walton Blvd.

Davis is the chamber's president and CEO. Thurow is vice president of marketing and membership at the chamber.

The two will receive some training before helping customers in the dining room and at the drive through window, said Mark Hufford, Chick-fil-A owner.

Davis and Thurow also will gain some experience in the kitchen so they can get a "taste of other parts of the restaurant," Hufford said.

"They'll have fun, and they'll be interacting with the guests that are here," he said.

They'll be taught the "Chick-fil-A way" with language and be instructed to say "my pleasure" instead of "you're welcome" and "may I refresh your beverage" instead of "can I get you a refill," Hufford said.

Davis said he's already been practicing this week. Those phrases are now a part of his regular vocabulary, he said.

"I'm working hard to prepare for the job," he said.

The event is a good way for the chamber to interact with its members as well as encourage community members to support their local businesses, Davis said.

Davis and Thurow will wear T-shirts throughout the day promoting the event, Thurow said.

Thurow said she got the idea for the program from another chamber of commerce in a small town in Kansas. A couple of chamber officials would spend time working in each of their members' businesses to learn more about them, she said.

"I liked it so much, I thought we could try it here," Thurow said. "It gives you a great opportunity to learn more about the businesses that you're out there working for. At the same time, it's more beneficial for the businesses because we do everything we can to publicize it."

Hufford said Chick-fil-A likes to partner with other organizations, and this provides an opportunity to do that.

"The chamber is a great organization," he said. "When you're partnering with a great organization, it benefits them both."

Chamber members can get a coupon for a free frosted lemonade during the event. It's a new product that is being tested in a few Chick-fil-A markets throughout the country, Hufford said.

Thurow said she would love for her and Davis to work at a chamber member's business once a month.

"It just depends on who hires us," she said with a laugh.

They have Tusk & Trotter and TeleComp lined up after Chick-fil-A, she said. There won't be a set date each month as it will be based on when is convenient for the business, she said.

Chamber members interested in "hiring" Davis and Thurow can email [email protected] or call 479-273-2841.
