Harrison man sentenced for sexual assault

A Harrison man was sentenced to 20 years in prison after pleading guilty to sexually assaulting a girl.

Alvin Troy Blanchard, 48, pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual assault in the second degree, a Class B felony. The plea was under an agreement his attorney, Scott McElveen, reached with Carly Marshall, deputy prosecutor.

Blanchard was arrest Nov. 11, 2013.

Rogers police began to investigate after they received a report from the Arkansas State Police Child Abuse Hotline, according to court documents. A 14-year-old girl reported Blanchard once touched her inappropriately, according to the probable cause aftdavit.

The girl was interviewed at the Children’s Advocacy Center of Benton County where she provided details of the abuse, according to court documents. She said Blanchard sexually abused her when she was 7 years old, according to court documents.

The abuse happened at Blanchard ‘s home when he lived in Rogers, according to court documents.

Circuit Judge Robin Green accepted the plea agreement and Blanchard’s guilty pleas.

Blanchard was sentenced to 20 years in prison for one count of sexual assault. He received a 20-year suspended sentence for the other count. Blanchard received 218 days of credit for the time he spent in the Benton County Jail awaiting trial.
