Police Warn Of New Scam In Fayetteville

FAYETTEVILLE -- The police are warning residents about a scam.

Police said several people reported the scam Thursday. The scammer claimed the victims failed to appear in court for jury duty and, subsequently, a warrant would be issued for their arrest, according to a news release.

In order to avoid the warrant, the scammer told the victims to buy money cards for several hundred dollars to pay fines and costs, according to the release.

Government agencies will not call and ask people to buy money cards for payment of fines, according to the release.

Should you be a victim of the scam, call the Police Department at 479-587-3555.
