China succeeds in icing housing, but ripples felt

Real estate agents wait for potential buyers in Beijing earlier this month. Housing prices in China had risen for 15 years before a recent slump that threatens the economy, analysts say.

BEIJING -- Six months ago, China's housing market was so red-hot that Feng Xiaowei, a sales manager at a real estate agency in the eastern city of Hangzhou, rarely took a day off.
