CARDINALS

Adams off disabled list

ST. LOUIS -- The St. Louis Cardinals have activated first baseman Matt Adams from the 15-day disabled list from a left calf strain and optioned rookie outfielder Oscar Taveras to Class AAA Memphis.

Adams was 3 for 15 with 2 RBI in a four-game rehab stint with Memphis. He entered Friday night's game against the Nationals batting .325, fifth in the National League, and was tied for the team lead with 16 doubles.

Taveras, the Cardinals' top prospect, hit a home run in his major league debut on May 31. He appeared in 11 games, all but one of them starts, and batted .189 with 2 RBI.

ASTROS

Altuve sidelined

HOUSTON -- Houston second baseman Jose Altuve was out of the lineup Friday night against Tampa Bay after being hit on the right hand by a pitch a night before.

X-rays taken Thursday night were negative and he is listed as day to day. Altuve said he felt better on Friday than he did when it happened and that he'd like to play today.

When asked if Altuve could play today, Manager Bo Porter said: "He's a resilient guy. He's tough so I'm not going to put that past him. We'll see how the treatment goes ... and make that decision [today].

Altuve, who leads the American League in hits (90) and stolen bases (24), missed his first game of the season Wednesday night because of a sore oblique muscle.

PADRES

Hahn recalled from AA

NEW YORK -- The San Diego Padres planned to recall pitcher Jesse Hahn from Class AA San Antonio to start today against the New York Mets.

Hahn will likely see some familiar faces in the crowd -- and the opposing dugout. The right-hander was a high school teammate of injured Mets ace Matt Harvey in Groton, Conn., about a two-hour drive from Citi Field.

Hahn said Friday that he plans to leave about 10-15 tickets for family and friends but expects his cheering section could be larger.

It will be his second major league start, following a 4-1 loss to Pittsburgh on June 3 in San Diego. Hahn lasted 3 2/3 innings in that game, allowing 4 runs and 6 hits -- including home runs by Pedro Alvarez and Neil Walker.

A sixth-round draft pick out of Virginia Tech in 2010, the 24-year-old Hahn was obtained from Tampa Bay in January as part of a seven-player trade.

TWINS

Hicks strains shoulder

DETROIT -- The Minnesota Twins have put outfielder Aaron Hicks on the 15-day disabled list with a right shoulder strain.

The team reinstated outfielder Sam Fuld from his rehab assignment and recalled catcher Eric Fryer on Friday night before opening a series in Detroit.

Hicks was hurt diving for a ball June 7 in Houston. He has a .198 average with 1 home run and 9 RBI in 48 games. Hicks, who Minnesota drafted No. 14 overall in 208, is hitting .194 with 9 home runs and 36 RBI in 129 games over two seasons.

Fuld was put on the 7-day disabled list May 8 with concussion-like symptoms. He hit .429 over four games at Class AA New Britain to get ready for his return.

Fryer hit .252 in 36 games this season at Class AAA Rochester.

MARLINS

Furcal activated from DL

MIAMI -- Miami Marlins second baseman Rafael Furcal has been activated from the 60-day disabled list after missing the first 2 1/2 months of the season with hamstring and groin injuries.

Furcal was in the lineup and batting leadoff in his first game since 2012 when Miami opened a homestand Friday night against Pittsburgh. He missed all of the 2013 season because of an elbow injury, then signed a one-year, $3 million deal with the Marlins.

The three-time All-Star hurt his hamstring in spring training in March, and his comeback was curtailed twice when he aggravated a groin injury.

Also, right-hander Angel Sanchez was claimed off waivers by Tampa Bay.

DODGERS

Ellis' ankle OK

LOS ANGELES -- The Los Angeles Dodgers activated catcher A.J. Ellis from the 15-day disabled list and optioned catcher Tim Federowicz to Class AAA Albuquerque on Friday.

The 33-year-old Ellis sprained his right ankle when he stepped on teammate Drew Butera's catcher's mask while celebrating Josh Beckett's no-hitter against Philadelphia on May 25.

Ellis has been limited to 15 games this season because of the sprained ankle and a left knee injury that required surgery. He is hitting .170 with one RBI.

Federowicz hit .131 with 1 home run and 5 RBI in 18 games for the Dodgers.

DIAMONDBACKS

Inciarte on concussion list

LOS ANGELES -- The Arizona Diamondbacks placed outfielder Ender Inciarte on the seven-day concussion disabled list and recalled outfielder Tony Campana from Class AAA Reno on Friday.

Inciarte sustained the concussion Thursday night in Houston when he was struck in the head by Astros shortstop Jonathan Villar's knee while stealing second base in the third inning.

Inciarte is hitting .205 with 4 RBI and 4 steals in 34 games for Arizona.

Campana has played in 23 games for Arizona this season, hitting .160 with 2 RBI and 4 stolen bases. He was optioned to Reno on May 2, and hit .286 with 12 RBI and 7 steals in 33 games for the Aces.
