Pinnacle Tournament Attracts Top Talent

ROGERS -- Another strong field of singles players will begin action today at the Colgate Junior Tennis Tournament at the Pinnacle Country Club in Rogers. Almost 150 boys and girls are entered, and some matches will be played at Memorial Park in Bentonville

The singles tournament starts today and ends Sunday and there are Open and Novice divisions for boys and girls ages 10- to 18-years-old.

"The players are good, very good," said Pinnacle director of tennis JD Hall. "It's a very popular tournament. We use all our courts at Pinnacle and we use 12 courts at Memorial. The 10s and 12s will play on the clay courts here, and the rest will play on the hard courts here and at Memorial."

Hall said the tournament continues to attract better players each year.

"The field is really good because we are getting people not just from Arkansas," Hall said. "We are getting people from Oklahoma and Missouri. The kids see a different crowd to play against."

Ryne Fletcher a rising senior at Springdale Har-Ber is the No. 1 seed in the Boys 18 Singles Open Division while rising Rogers High senior Riley McGill is the No. 2 seed. McGill qualified in doubles at the Class 7A State Tournament as a sophomore and junior.

"Riley is a real good player," Hall said. "He plays out here at Pinnacle, and we are excited for him. There should be a lot of good matches."

Emma Warnock, of Fort Smith, is the No. 1 seed in the Girls 16 Singles Open Division while Cortni Thomas, of Mountain Home, is the No. 2 seed.
