Rogers High Hall of Fame Seeking Nominations

ROGERS -- The Rogers High Athletic Hall of Fame has started a pro-active approach to placing to people in the Hall of Fame.

In the past, the committee only accepted outside nominations but now the committee is also charged with nominating former players, coaches and community members that have made significant contributions to Mounties athletics.

"We have a whole bunch of new board members and what we are asking them is to be more active in getting people that really deserve the honor to be nominated," said Rick Stocker, who is President of the committee. "We have people that have had great success that have never been nominated. We will take nominations from the board, and we still will ask people outside the board to nominate people."

Stocker said 11 people have been nominated for this year's class and a majority have come from outside the committee. The deadline for the 2014 class is June 15 and forms can be picked up at Rogers High or downloaded from the Rogers School District website.

Nomination categories included distinguished service of 10 years or more by a person that made significant contributions to the program who was not a coach or player, former coaches that have made contributions to the program and community, and former student-athletes that made contributions to the program.

Former players must have been out of high school for at least 10 years and current coaches are not eligible.

Another change is that a summer banquet honoring the new members has been changed to a Saturday reception following a home Mounties football game. This year's reception is scheduled for Sept. 27 at 6:00 p.m. in the Rogers High auditorium. A reception with light refreshments will be served after the induction ceremony in the Commons Area.

"We plan on introducing the nominees at halftime of the Mounties football game that Friday night," Stocker said.
