Plane makes emergency landing at XNA after multiple alarms

Multiple alarms in the cockpit forced a Delta Airlines flight to return to Northwest Arkansas Regional Airport and make an emergency landing Thursday morning.

Kelly Johnson, airport director, said Flight 5358 departed the airport for Atlanta at 9:20 a.m. Multiple alarms went off in the cockpit shortly after takeoff, Johnson said.

The pilot flew around and burned off fuel before contacting the airport at 10:03 a.m., Johnson said.

The plane — a CRJ 200 — landed safely at 10:20 a.m., Johnson said.

There was a problem with the aircraft’s steering. One of the airplane’s tires also was flat. The plane had to be towed off the runway, Johnson said.

The airplane was carrying 50 passenger and three crew members. No one was injured, Johnson said.

Airport operations were suspended for 47 minutes during the incident, Johnson said. Operations resumed at 11:09 a.m., Johnson said.

“The flight crew did a great job as did all the emergency responders,” Johnson said.
