Drillers clinch first-half title

Kramer Sneed did all he could Wednesday night to keep the Arkansas Travelers in the race for the Texas League North Division first-half title.

Sneed held Tulsa scoreless over seven innings and exited with a one-run lead, but Cristhian Adames drove in two runs with an eighth-inning double and Cole White pitched a perfect ninth to steal the Drillers' 2-1 victory at ONEOK Field in Tulsa and clinch the first-half title.

The Travelers entered the four-game series trailing the Drillers by 4 1/2 games with six games left in the first half. They took a 1-0 lead on Brian Hernandez' RBI single in the first but were held to three hits the rest of the game as the Drillers clinched the first-half title for the second consecutive year to earn a spot in the Texas League playoffs.

The Travs led 1-0 heading into the bottom of the eighth when Daniel Reynolds relieved Sneed, who held the Drillers to three hits and struck out six. Jose Gonzalez led off with a single, Delta Cleary Jr. moved him to second with a sacrifice bunt and Taylor Featherston singled to put runners at first and third. Adames doubled to left-center field to score Gonzalez and Featherston and give the Drillers a 2-1 lead.

The Travs took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first when Maikol Gonzalez led off with a double and scored on Hernandez's single to center field. But the Travs didn't get another hit until the fifth inning, when Kaleb Cowart and Erik Komatsu singled before Eric Stamets grounded into an inning-ending double play.
