"Even if I wasn't on the committee, one of the big thrills is attending the banquet and hearing their stories," said former Springdale basketball coach Charlie Smith, who is a member of an eight-person selection committee. "It's kind of a waltz down memory lane a lot times."

Carter is joined in the class by Meagan Pless and Paige Farrell-Rollins (class of 2004), Aaron Adams (1992), Craig McKee (1991), Afton Scott (1984), Rick Fine (1979), Ron Baker (1963), Jerry Brewer (1958) and Jerry Delozier (1953).

The 10-person class falls in line with the size of past classes, which range from eight to 13 inductees.

"What we try to do is get some from each decade, starting with the (1940's)," Smith said. "We try to have to from each, one at least from each decade, each year."

Carter has served as the football public address announcer for more than three decades, while he has handled basketball announcing duties for more than two decades.

Pless and Farrell-Rollins were both selected by the committee in the first year they were eligible to be inducted. Farrell-Rollins is a state record-holder in the 400-meter dash and also lettered in basketball and cross country before running track at Arkansas, while Pless was an all-state soccer player who went on to play at Oklahoma Christian.

Adams had a state-best eight interceptions in 1991 while becoming the first Springdale student to achieve all-state honors in athletics (football) and arts (choir). He was also an all-conference baseball player.

McKee was a two-time all-state baseball player and also earned all-state football honors. He was a junior college all-American baseball player at Crowder College and played Division I baseball at Texas State.

Fine set several records as an all-conference quarterback and also lettered in basketball and track. Baker was an honorable-mention all-state football player while also lettering in track.

Brewer was a four-sport standout at Springdale, lettering in football, basketball, baseball and track. Delozier was an all-state football player and also lettered in track and basketball.

"As far as ranking with other classes, I would say it's as good as any," Smith said.

Tickets for the August banquet, which begins with a reception at 5:30 p.m. will go on sale July 7 at the Springdale Public Schools district athletics office. Individual tickets are $15 and tables of eight can be reserved for $110.

People interested in attending or in submitting a nomination for future classes can contact the athletic department at 479-750-1680 for more information.
