In Las Vegas, five killed in shooting

LAS VEGAS -- Two suspects shot and killed two police officers in an ambush at a Las Vegas restaurant Sunday before fatally shooting a third person and killing themselves inside a nearby Wal-Mart, authorities said.

A man and woman walked into CiCi's Pizza and shot at point-blank range officers Alyn Beck, 42, and Igor Soldo, 32, who were eating lunch, Las Vegas police officials said. One of the officers was able to fire back before he died, but it's unclear if he hit the suspects, Sheriff Doug Gillespie of the Las Vegas Metro Police Department said at a news conference.

One of the suspects yelled, "This is a revolution," but the motive for the shooting remains under investigation, Las Vegas police spokesman Larry Hadfield said. He added, "We don't know anything about the suspects yet."

The suspects fled to the Wal-Mart across the street, where they fatally shot a person inside the front door and exchanged gunfire with police before killing themselves, police said.

The female suspect shot the male suspect before killing herself, Gillespie said. The Wal-Mart victim's identity hasn't been confirmed, and the suspects' names haven't been released.

Colorado slammed by hail, tornadoes

AURORA, Colo. — A line of severe storms packing high winds and hail swept across Colorado’s Front Range and eastern plains Sunday, spawning several damaging tornadoes, including one that dropped down near a junior golf tournament southeast of Denver.

A tornado touched down near the Blackstone Country Club, causing one minor injury and flipping an empty trailer, Aurora Fire Department officials said.

Several other tornadoes were reported Sunday, including one in Grover in northeastern Colorado and two in Park County. A twister also touched down in a sparsely populated area of southeast Wyoming, but there were no immediate reports of injuries or major damage.

National Weather Service meteorologist Kyle Fredin said low pressure created a “large extensive line” of severe weather along the Front Range from southern Colorado to the Wyoming border.

Main break shuts Ohio theme park

SANDUSKY, Ohio — Ohio’s most popular amusement park was closed through the weekend after a water-main break in Sandusky disrupted its primary water supply, putting a damper on thousands of summer vacations.

Park officials closed Cedar Point and three hotels on its northern Ohio property Saturday and didn’t expect to reopen them until today, saying a lack of reliable water posed a safety risk.

Many visitors to the park didn’t know about the closure until they arrived, some after driving hundreds of miles.

Roger and Debbie Balderas of South Bend, Ind., took their daughter and their daughter’s friend to Cedar Point early Saturday and snagged a good parking spot before they were told the park was closed.

“This was our vacation,” Roger Balderas said.

In a statement on its website, Cedar Point apologized to guests and said any unused tickets would be good for the rest of the year.
