Location: Trailhead is at the Garner Visitor Center on Arkansas 25 at the western end of Greers Ferry Lake Dam in Heber Springs. Center is open 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily mid-May to mid-September.

Length: This easy-to-moderate dirt trail is 1.6 miles out and back. Tack on the nearby paved, barrier-free Buckeye Trail for 2.4 miles total.

Main attractions: Meandering along a bluff overlooking the Little Red River, this gem of a short trail is a scenic wonder of ferns, small waterfalls and dripping water. Stairs at the end lead to a fine overlook of the dam and river.

Hazards: Watch the little ones on the narrow sections. It’s not a straight fall, but a long, 45-degree slide down to the river.

Dog, bike, tyke friendly? Leave the bikes in the car and keep the dog on a leash. Youngsters will love it.
