If it's real bourbon, it's good stuff

My friend's theory is that there is no bad bourbon.

I'm not so sure about this, for I have heard rumors of genuinely bad bust-head in my time. On the other hand, I am fond of Evan Williams Green Label, which some people (I have found out) regard as genuinely awful bust-head. I also think Old Crow and Old Grand-Dad -- all the Olds actually -- are pretty passable.

But then, a lot of the bourbons that people claim are bad bourbons aren't really bourbons, while some other products -- such as Jack Daniels Tennessee Whiskey -- meet all the legal requirements to be called a bourbon but choose not to be marketed as such. Some people will tell you that Jack Daniels can't be a bourbon because it's charcoal filtered, but Evan Williams and a few other legit bourbons are also charcoal-filtered and proclaim as much right on their labels. Jack Daniels and George Dickel Sour Mash prefer to be called "Tennessee whiskey" so we respect that decision,
