Timmy Packer and his cousin were playing dominoes outside the home at 723 S. Maple St. about 12:25 p.m. when a man started shooting at them from behind shrubs in the alley, witnesses said. Relatives said Packer suffered two gunshot wounds in his back.

Packer’s grandmother, Lotie Fields, was inside the house at the time of the shooting. One witness said the gunman fired seven to 10 shots.

Fields said Packer was in stable condition late Thursday afternoon. Packer’s cousin had only minor injuries, she said.

The shooting was still under investigation Thursday evening, and police were patrolling in the area, one witness said. The witness described the gunman as a bald, light-skinned black man.

Residents in the area said they believe the shooting was related to a previous dispute between the victims and an unidentified female neighbor. On Wednesday, the woman involved in the argument told neighbors not to be surprised if they heard gunshots, the residents said. Shortly before the shooting Thursday, the woman warned people to get inside, they added.

After the shooting, the woman left the area in a green Mazda Tribute, residents said.

Officers reported finding three stolen watches in the man’s possession. The suspect, Earmon Wright, was hospitalized after complaining of having trouble breathing, the report said. Wright, 45, told officers he has asthma, the report said.

His Chevrolet Suburban was found near the home and was impounded, the report said.

Officers responded shortly before 4 p.m. to Roosevelt Road and Joiner Avenue in Jacksonville, where they searched for a suspect nicknamed “Killa Kam” who was reportedly wearing denim shorts, a white shirt and Air Jordan sneakers, according to an arrest report. Kameron Mathis, 17, matched the suspect’s description and was arrested, the report said.

Officers took Mathis, who is also known as “Lil Thug,” to a home at 151 Roosevelt Road in Jacksonville, where Juwell Tucker identified him as the person who had just shot at him and tried to rob him inside the home, the report says.

No injuries were reported.

NLR man linked to ‘hot’ batteries

A North Little Rock man who agreed to help sell $14,400 worth of stolen truck batteries was arrested Wednesday, police reported.

Orvie Landen, 54, agreed to help a man named Fred Bible sell the batteries, which were stolen from Glover Truck & Trailer Sales at 8608 U.S. 70, police said.

Landen told police that Bible arrived at his home at 2301 E. Broadway with a truck full of batteries, the report says. Even though Landen knew Bible was “bad news” and that the batteries could be stolen, he agreed to help sell them for a cut of the profit, the report says.

Landen was charged with theft by receiving. He was not listed on the Pulaski County jail roster late Thursday.

It was unknown if other arrests had been made in the case.
