Full news release:

Due to forecasted severe weather, this year’s Paddle in Paradise event at Lake Avalon has been canceled. The association’s Lakes & Parks Superintendent Vern Olafson, spoke to the National Weather Service in Tulsa, Oklahoma this morning who strongly recommended against holding the event on Saturday due to the elevated risk of thunderstorms and heavy rain.

A rain date was scheduled for June 14, but due to the cancellation of a major vendor on that date, there would not be enough kayaks, resulting in long waiting lines for the participants.

The association apologizes for any inconvenience and hopes to resume the family friendly event next year.
