James returning to No. 23

LeBron James will go back to wearing jersey No. 23 in his return to Cleveland. James tweeted "23 it is! It's only right I go back. 2 3=6 We still family 6." The tweet included an Instagram post with photos of James holding his No. 23 Cavaliers jersey on draft night, him later in a new version of the Cavs' jersey and a one of him in his high school jersey. James wore No. 6 in four seasons with Miami and with the U.S. Olympic team. He used No. 23 in high school and during seven seasons in Cleveland. About 10 days ago, James turned to social media to help him choose which number he'll wear next season with the Cavaliers. James wrote "6 or 23...." on his Twitter account.

Bills running low at TE

The Buffalo Bills are down another tight end after starter Scott Chandler left practice with a groin injury. Coach Doug Marrone didn't have an immediate update on the severity of the injury or how much time Chandler might miss. Chandler was hurt early during the training camp session on Sunday, and did not return after being escorted to the locker room. The Bills are already down tight end Tony Moeaki, who is out indefinitely after hurting his hamstring on Friday. Tight end Chris Gragg (Arkansas Razorbacks) is expected back next week after spending two days in the hospital being treated for heat-related cramps. Receiver Kevin Elliott did not return after complaining of concussion-like symptoms. He was hurt after being hit by safety Jonathan Meeks on a play at the goal line.

Randall Cobb doesn't know if he's next on the Green Bay Packers re-signing to-do list. His teammates are assuming that's the case. One day after fellow wide receiver Jordy Nelson signed a reported four-year, $39 million contract extension, Cobb stood at his locker Sunday following the team's second training-camp practice and faced question after question about when he might get a new deal. But it wasn't just reporters talking about it. Not long after news of Nelson's deal broke, other players were talking to him about Cobb, who's entering the final year of his rookie deal, being next to get a new deal. Among the Packers' other unrestricted free agents-to-be are right tackle Bryan Bulaga, cornerback Tramon Williams and defensive tackle B.J. Raji.

• The Colts re-signed running back Davin Meggett after putting linebacker Aaron Morgan on injured reserve Sunday. Indianapolis did not say what Morgan's injury was. Meggett, the son of former NFL running back Dave Meggett, played at the University of Maryland and was on the Colts practice squad in December 2012 but has not played in an NFL game. The move comes one day after Indy announced running back Vick Ballard would miss the rest of the season with a torn left Achilles' tendon. Morgan joined the Colts on Dec. 31 and has played in 18 career games. He was with Jacksonville from 2010 through early October 2012, and then played Tampa Bay until being cut Sept. 5, 2013.

• Pro Bowl defensive end Greg Hardy said he wants to remain with the Carolina Panthers beyond this season. Hardy addressed the media before Sunday's practice but refused to answer specific questions about his recent conviction on two domestic violence charges except to say, "I hate that I have distracted my team." Hardy, the team's franchise player, was convicted this month of assaulting a female and communicating threats and sentenced to a 60-day suspended jail sentence and 18 months' probation following a May 13 incident in which he attacked his ex-girlfriend in his apartment. Hardy is appealing the conviction. Panthers General Manager Dave Gettleman has refused to discuss Hardy's future with the team. "I love this place," Hardy said. "This is a great atmosphere. I love the ownership [and] my teammates."

Sabres re-sign Adam

The Buffalo Sabres have re-signed forward Luke Adam to a one-year, two-way contract, which provides them the option to have him play in the minors. Adam was a restricted free agent after being tendered a contract offer by the team last month. He was selected in the second round of the 2008 draft, and has played parts of four seasons with the Sabres. Adam has 15 goals and 11 assists for 26 points in 87 NHL games. Last season, he led Buffalo's AHL affiliate in Rochester with 29 goals and finished second on the team with 49 points. Adams was the AHL's rookie of the year in 2010-11.

Force defeats her father

Courtney Force beat father John Force in the NHRA Sonoma Nationals on Sunday to break a tie with sister Ashley Force Hood for career Funny Car victories by a female driver with five. Courtney Force outran her 65-year-old father with a 4.253-second pass at 296.24 mph in her Ford Mustang. She also won this this year at Topeka, Kan., for the 100th female victory in NHRA history. Khalid alBalooshi won in Top Fuel, Jason Line in Pro Stock and Eddie Krawiec in Pro Stock Motorcycle.

Daniel Ricciardo of Red Bull won the Hungarian Grand Prix on Sunday, overtaking Ferrari's Fernando Alonso near the end of the race. Lewis Hamilton, who started from pit lane after crashing during qualifying, was third, holding off Mercedes teammate Nico Rosberg, who started from the pole. It was Ricciardo's second victory of the season and his career, having won the Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal in June. Rain just before the start made conditions difficult at the beginning of the race. Several drivers, including Sebastien Grosjean and Kamui Kobayashi, crashed bringing out the safety car. Rosberg leads the championship with 202 points, followed by Hamilton with 191 and Ricciardo with 131. The championship continues after the summer break on Aug. 24 with the Belgian Grand Prix in Spa-Francorchamps.

Isner defends in Atlanta

Top-seeded John Isner overpowered Dudi Sela on Sunday to successful defend his Atlanta Open title, blowing serve after serve past the 5-foot-9 Israeli player in a 6-3, 6-4 victory. Serving for the match, the 6-foot-10 Isner fell behind 30-0 before Sela sent a backhand into the net, and then watched almost helplessly as the American ripped three consecutive aces for the victory. Isner finished with 15 aces to Sela's two. Ranked 12th, Isner has won two of his nine career titles in Atlanta, where he also lost to Mardy Fish in the 2010 and 2011 finals and to eventual champion Andy Roddick in the 2012 semifinals.

Pablo Andujar of Spain won his first title in more than two years on Sunday, beating Juan Monaco of Argentina 6-3, 7-5 in the Swiss Open final. It was the 71st-ranked Andujar's third career title, all on clay courts. He also won at Casablanca, Morocco, in 2011 and 2012. Andujar got the only break in the first set to take a 5-3 lead and then held serve to close out the set. Monaco, ranked No. 105 two years after being in the top 10, jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second and served for the set up 5-3. But Andujar reeled off four consecutive games, clinching the match by holding serve at love.
