New Eagle Scouts

Zachary Alstadt, 17, is the son of Tod and Sandy Alstadt of Little Rock and a member of Troop 335 at Highland Valley Methodist Church. Alstadt's Eagle project was the building and installation of two 18-room purple martin birdhouses at Dunbar Gardens with the help of eight members of his Scout troop. The birdhouses give the purple martins a place to live and also allow the children from Dunbar Magnet Middle School to observe them.

Samuel Blair, 18, is the son of Stephen and Lisa Blair of Little Rock and a member of Troop 395 at St. James United Methodist Church. For his Eagle project, Blair built a bridge connecting a soccer field and the playground at St. Theresa Catholic School in Little Rock.

Robert Caffey, 16, is the son of Tracy and Allen Brown and Pete Caffey of Bryant and a member of Troop 395 at St. James United Methodist Church. Under his leadership, Caffey and group of Scouts from several different troops and other volunteers worked to prepare and host an evening with dinner and entertainment for the occupants of The Ronald McDonald House in Little Rock.

John Cantwell, 18, is the son of Jeff and Laura Cantwell of Little Rock and a member of Troop 27 at Our Lady of the Holy Souls Catholic Church. With the help of his troop, Cantwell led the installation of two benches and a set of steps on a traffic island at Fountain and Vernon avenues in Little Rock. He also planted vines to mitigate further erosion of the area.

James Hughes, 18, is the son of Laurie and Alan Hughes of Little Rock and a member of Troop 29 at Christ the King Catholic Church. Hughes' Eagle project involved blazing 300 yards of new path along the Ouachita Trail near Pipeline Creek by Arkansas 9. Along with his crew, Hughes cut away brush and fallen trees, leveled the trail along the hillsides, removed debris and painted blazes to mark the trail. He also built a sign to mark the trail entrance.

Alexander Jordan, 17, is the son of David and Angela Undiener and a member of Troop 108 at East End Elementary. Jordan's Eagle project focused on making improvements to the I-Can! Arts & Resource Center playground for children with special needs in the East End Community. The work involved clearing walkways, leveling wood chip bedding for wheelchair access and floodwater prevention and drainage.

Joshua Landers, 17, is the son of Scott and Ruth Landers of North Little Rock and a member of Troop 427 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. For his Eagle project, Landers carried out the planning and construction of raised garden beds for the new Community Gardens at St. Joseph's Farm and Center in North Little Rock.

Shawn Moeller, 14, is the son of Shawn and Chasity Moeller of Searcy and a member of Troop 96 at First United Methodist Church. Moeller worked to aid his local foster parent association for his Eagle project. Under his leadership and direction, a storage building was organized with shelves, totes and donated clothing to aid the children in need in his community and the families who serve them.

Mason Norsworthy, 15, is the son of Laura Richardson Norsworthy of Pine Bluff and a member of Troop 100 at First Presbyterian Church. For his Eagle project, Norsworthy repainted the bathrooms and shower areas at the Family Life Community Center of First Presbyterian Church in Pine Bluff. The project included sanding, prepping and repainting the men's and women's three-stall bathrooms and shower rooms. The work took 92 hours and the help of several Scouts and adult volunteers.

Michael Pere', 17, is the son of Joe and Kerry Pere' of Roland and a member of Troop 99 at Covenant Presbyterian Church in Little Rock. For his Eagle project, Pere' installed new parking directional signs for the overflow parking lot at the West Summit/Kingfisher area of Pinnacle Mountain.

Jeffrey Rogers, 17, is the son of Theresa and Mark Rogers of Little Rock and a member of Troop 29 at Christ the King Catholic Church. Rogers' Eagle project was the refurbishing of an outdoor rooftop courtyard at Arkansas Children's Hospital in Little Rock. He powerwashed and stained the wood decking, replaced a water feature and added large pots of annual color to the area.

Justin Wiley, 16, is the son of Shannon and Nicole Wiley of Hot Springs and a member of First Presbyterian Church in Hot Springs. For his Eagle project, Wiley repaired and refinished the rock climbing wall at Ross Rhodes Campgrounds and made it safe for use by the general public.
