Road resurfacing to end mid-August

Work on resurfacing 6 miles of Maumelle Boulevard in Maumelle and North Little Rock is expected to be completed by the middle of next month, according to the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department.

The project to resurface both eastbound and westbound lanes from Interstate 430 west to Murphy Drive was awarded a $2.1 million contract in April. Cranford Construction of North Little Rock is the contractor.

The project should have been completed by now, but department officials said in a news release that wet weather has delayed work.

"All of the rain we've had has really been a problem," Joe Sartini, the district engineer for the agency's District 6, which includes Pulaski County, said in the release.

"Milling of the westbound lanes is done and we are about to wrap up milling in the eastbound lanes," he added. "Once the milling is complete, crews will begin laying the new driving surface."

Crews have been working at night to avoid traffic delays during peak driving hours.
