ASGA junior match play starts

The Arkansas State Golf Association's Junior Match Play begins with qualifying rounds today at Eagle Hill Golf and Athletic Club in Little Rock.

Defending champions Peyton Wilhoit of Searcy and Casey Ott of Conway are back to defend their championships.

Wilhoit won last year's boys championship 4 and 3 over Austin Eoff of Benton. He is expected to be challenged by Ryan Spurlock of Maumelle among the remaining 75-plus players in the field.

Ott defeated Kirsten Garner of Hot Springs in 19 holes to win the 2013 girls title.

Ott will be joined by 26 others in this year's field.

Wilhoit and Ott are exempt from qualifying and will be the No. 1 seeds in their respective bracket. First- and second-round matches will be played Tuesday. Boys third-round and quarterfinal matches are set for Wednesday as are the girls quarterfinals and semifinals.

The boys semifinals will be played Thursday morning with the championship set for later that afternoon.

The girls championship is scheduled for Thursday morning.
