JAKE JACOBY : PULASKI ACADEMY

Jake Jacoby never lost a regular-season tennis match in his high school career. His reputation in the classroom was equally impressive.

Jacoby was a two-time Overall singles champion on the court and compiled a 4.48 grade point average at Pulaski Academy.

“The thing I can be most proud of is my overall dedication to my classwork,” Jacoby said. “With my [tennis] schedule, I would have to miss at least a day or two of classes. It was hard to keep up with everything and stay on task to be competitive in the classroom.”

Jacoby produced a 68-2 record with the Bruins’ tennis team. He won his first Overall title in 2011 and won it for a second time in 2013. Jacoby also found time to play soccer for Pulaski Academy and he was invited to play in the Arkansas High School Coaches Association’s All-Star Game.

Jacoby, who has been the state’s top-ranked tennis player for his age group the past four years, will continue his tennis career at the University of Iowa in the fall.

“Why Iowa? I get that question a lot,” Jacoby said. “It sounds like a random choice coming from someone from Arkansas. They were the last school to recruit me and I really have no connection with the school. But they made a good impression and when I went there for an official visit, I immediately liked the place. In fact, it caught me by surprise how much I liked it.”

Jacoby plans to major in business during his time in Iowa City.

“My dad is an investment banker and I’ve always been fascinated with the stock market,” Jacoby said. “There’s some gambling to it, but if you know what you’re doing, you can make a lot of money.”

Before he enters a career in business, Jacoby plans to play tennis for as long as he can.

“If I could play professional tennis, that would be cool,” Jacoby said. “That’s what I dream to be, but if that doesn’t work out, I do have a plan.”
