FAYETTEVILLE -- Police said a man posing as a pizza delivery man was arrested Friday after attempting to rob a woman at her apartment.

Matthew Green, 22, of 2356 W. Skyler Drive was arrested in connection with robbery and misdemeanor loitering, according to the Washington County Detention Center.

Police were called to the Links Apartments about 11:30 p.m. Friday at 1602 Merion Way for a report of a burglary. When they arrived, Green was being held down by the woman's boyfriend, according to an arrest report.

Underneath Green was a black pellet gun that resembled a semi-automatic pistol, according to the report.

The woman told police that earlier in the evening, Green came to her apartment and tried to give her a Gusano's pizza, according to the report. Green told the woman he was a delivery boy and he couldn't find the apartment that had ordered the pizza, so she could have it.

He asked if he could come in for a drink of water. The woman told police she was frightened, gave the pizza back and quickly shut the door, police said. She was home alone.

The woman then called police. She also called her boyfriend to come home, police said.

Two hours later, Green came back, but this time, he had a gun.

When police questioned Green, he said he was trying to visit a friend, police said. Green said the reason he had the gun was because he's an "outdoors man who lives to shoot things."

Police said they didn't believe the rest of the story Green told them, and so his story changed.

He said he was really at the residence to buy Roxycodone, or "Roxies," although he didn't know the woman, but said he heard she sells the drug. Police said the woman has a prescription for Roxycodone.

Police went the pizza parlor to ask if Green was employed there. The manager told them he wasn't.

The manager also told police Green tried to buy a uniform from the business, but they wouldn't sell him one, but they did sell him the pizza.

Green was being held Saturday in the Washington County Detention Center in lieu of a $3,500 bond.
