Bentonville Outstanding Citizen Award Recipients Named

BENTONVILLE -- The 2014 second quarter winners of the Outstanding Citizen Award are Sam Covert, Tina Lewis and Club Marketing Services, Mayor Bob McCaslin announced in a news release.

The award program began in January 2011 to recognize exceptional volunteer contributions of residents. Categories are youth, adult and community group.

Covert was nominated by Maris Shofner. Covert is a member of the student council at Ruth Hale Barker Middle School.

"He is always considerate and willing to put others first," Shofner wrote. "Sam's good deeds seem to be inherent. He is that mindful and considerate of others."

Covert has been known to give his allowance to animal rescue groups on many occasions. He is a straight-A student whose hobbies include playing guitar, football and singing in the choir, according to the release.

Lewis was nominated by Mark Snodgrass, pastor of Bentonville Church of the Nazarene. Lewis is the volunteer director of the Upward basketball and cheerleading program. Upward is a ministry of the church that uses sports to teach sportsmanship, integrity, courage, patience and more.

"This volunteer position requires many hours, but Tina willingly puts in the time because she believes in the mission of Upward and loves seeing kids succeed in sports and life," Snodgrass wrote. "Tina's leadership and commitment to this effort makes this a reality and inspires others to get involved."

Club Marketing Services was nominated by Havenwood's program staff. Club Marketing Services opened its office in Bentonville in 1995 and has been a supporter of Havenwood for many years. Havenwood is a transitional housing facility for single parents.

Club Marketing Services has provided "exceptional volunteer support through various opportunities," over the past two years.

Club Marketing Services staff members serve on Havenwood's advisory board and other committees. They have managed the marketing efforts of Havenwood's major fundraising events and dedicated time and effort in promoting Havenwood and its programs.

"Club Marketing is an exemplary business that models servant leadership from the top down, and we are grateful to be one of the many nonprofit recipients of their generosity," Havenwood staff wrote.

Third quarter nominations will be accepted until Sept. 19. For more information, visit www.bentonvillear.com.
