BENTONVILLE — The public got a look side the Bentonville Community Recreation Center during a topping out ceremony this morning.

Parks and Recreation staff lead small group tours through main areas of the building, which is under construction. Attendees also had the opportunity to sign the last beam to be installed. A couple hundred people participated.

The split-level building is located at 1101 S.W. Citizen Circle and will be about 82,000 square feet. It will include community rooms, a senior activity room, a track, a gymnasium, two pools, locker rooms, an aerobics room and weight lifting area.

The topping out ceremony marks a milestone in the construction process, said Pat Carroll, Crossland Construction project manager.

Once the roof on the pool is done, work will move to the interior of the building where rooms will be more defined, he said. Exterior brick will start being laid within the next two to three weeks.

The building is schedule to open in 2015.
