FAYETTEVILLE -- The city's Community Services Division is hosting its annual CDBG in the Park event from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Friday in the pavilion at Walker Park, 10 W. 15th St.

Residents will have an opportunity to learn about services provided through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's Community Development Block Grant program.

Organizations, including LifeSource International, Life Styles, Washington County Environmental Affairs and Recycling Office and the Fayetteville Public Library, will also have information available for attendees.

Hot dogs, chips and ice cream will be served.

The city in 2014 received $585,000 in Community Development Block Grant funding, according to Kyle Belt, city block grant programs administrator.

The bulk of the money pays for house repairs for low- to moderate-income homeowners. It also can be used for transportation vouchers or as direct assistance to nonprofit groups.

Residents must meet specific income requirements to be eligible for block grant moneyg. Belt said everyone is welcome at Friday's event
