Hatred Does Not Deserve To Be Published

Tuesday, July 15, 2014

Marvin Bair's letter to the editor (Thursday, July 10) is an example of my political life-change in 2006, when I voted my first-ever straight Democratic ticket. For half a century, 1954 through 2000, I have voted almost straight Republican -- Eisenhower/Rockefeller Republican, that is.

The unmitigated hatred illustrated in Marvin's letter -- "Der Fuhrer" -- would alone be enough for me to vote another straight Democratic ticket. His letters have been juvenile for a long time, but he has evolved into just another parrot of Fox and the nutty right-wing hatemongers. These nut-wing haters have transformed our political system into a relationship of enemies as distinguished from an adversary relationship.

I can remember when Benton County was solid Democratic with Democrats elected to every public office and very few of us were solid Republicans of the Eisenhower/Rockefeller variety, and the Democrats may have had a few loud mouths similar to Marvin, but never anything comparable to the vile hatred of today's Republican Party. It is way past time for those of us with a background of working for the Republican Party say "no more" to those so filled with hatred, as they are destroying the Republican Party as well as the American two-party experiment.

In my judgment, this kind of vile hatred, parroted by those too lazy to think for themselves, does not deserve to be published.
