I-40 work to divert traffic onto ramps

Work on Interstate 40 at the Arkansas 38 interchange in St. Francis County will require overnight traffic diversions onto interchange ramps beginning Monday, the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department officials said.

Completing work on the Arkansas 38 overpass will require diverting I-40 eastbound and westbound traffic across Arkansas 38 using existing ramps, rather than traveling beneath the bridge from 11 p.m. until 5 a.m. daily through Friday morning.

Motorists will exit I-40 using the Arkansas 38 exit ramp, cross Arkansas 38 and be placed back on I-40 utilizing the existing entrance ramp, the department said.

The $51.9 million project is part of the interstate repair program voters approved in 2011 that will upgrade 455 miles of Arkansas interstates. The project should be complete late this summer, the department said.
