Minister Called To Give Back

The Rev. Dian Williams

Ministerial and Pastoral Care Services

Fayetteville

Q. List your education and work experience.

A. A.A. (associate of arts degree) San Bernardino Valley College; graduated in 1979 as Registered Nurse; worked as an IV therapist at St. Mary's Desert Valley Hospital, Apple Valley, Calif., 1979-86; B.S. (bachelor of science) Health Sciences from University of Redlands, Redlands, Calif., 1986; Ordained Unity minister in 1998; Unity Center of Tulsa 1999-2003; Unity Church of Christianity, Houston 2003-10

Q. What was your call to ministry?

A. In 1994 after recovering from cancer, I found myself called into ministry to give back all the blessings I had received. My husband was stationed in Omaha, Neb., at the time so I made the commute to Lee's Summit, Mo., to the Unity School of Christianity.

Q. Tell us something most people don't know about you (community involvement, hobbies, travel, family, other).

A. My husband and I co-chaired Interfaith Harmony for two years. Now we are heavily involved on the Steering Team for Compassion Fayetteville. I conduct Taize services which meet in various locations around the city and provide an opportunity for the community to engage in an hour of meditation, candle lighting, prayer, and singing. I recently started singing with Harmonia, and we often host the Pumpkin Ridge House Concerts at our home. We have two grandchildren who moved to Fayetteville a year ago, and I have fun teaching them things like cooking, playing the keyboard, and how to earn and manage their money.

Q. What is the message you have to share?

A. That we are all One no matter what path our lives have taken.

Editor's Note: Spiritually Speaking will feature the Rev. Edwin Williams, the Rev. Dian Williams' husband and co-minister, next week.
