FAYETTEVILLE -- Kim Garrett will leave her position as assistant superintendent in Springdale to become associate superintendent for secondary education in Fayetteville, Superintendent Paul Hewitt announced Wednesday.

Garrett's starting date hasn't been determined, Hewitt said. Her annual salary will be $130,000.

Garrett's resignation is effective July 22, according to Jared Cleveland, deputy superintendent for human resources in Springdale.

Garrett joined Springdale staff a year ago as the assistant superintendent for teaching and learning for grades eight through 12. Before that, she was principal at Bentonville High School. Previous positions in Bentonville included principal at Washington Junior High School and assistant principal at the high school.

Hewitt said Garrett will work with assistant superintendent John L. Colbert and Kay Jacoby, executive director for curriculum and instruction, to develop a leadership team to focus on curriculum.

"Kim brings a high degree of integrity to our district and has a record of being a collaborative leader who works well with people to develop a shared vision," Hewitt said. She's completing work for a doctoral degree at the University of Arkansas, Hewitt said.

Garrett will replace Ginny Wiseman who left at the end of June as part of an early retirement program.

Garrett is the second central office administrator Hewitt has hired since taking over as superintendent last week.

Hewitt announced Tuesday that Kathy Hanlon, former chief financial officer in the Rogers School District, will become the chief financial officer in Fayetteville. Hanlon's annual salary will be $140,000. Her start date is Aug. 4 and she will work until then as needed under a personal services contract.

Hanlon's first order of business is to interview applicants for the accountant position in the business office. Logan Lemaster resigned in mid-June. Staffing the central office will be complete when Lemaster's position is filled, Hewitt said.

"Kathy Hanlon did an excellent job for the Rogers Public Schools. She helped ensure that our district stayed financially stable. We wish Ms. Hanlon well in this new endeavor," said Rogers Superintendent Janie Darr. Hanlon was with the district for 20 years.

Hewitt said he plans to present an organizational chart restructuring the central office at the next School Board meeting. That meeting is scheduled for 5 p.m. July 29. The meeting date was changed to accommodate other education meetings in Little Rock.
