Forum to address Internet in schools

Leaders of the FasterArkansas organization will answer questions from members of the public about high-speed Internet service for public school districts at a "tele-townhall" conference call at 6 p.m. today.

FasterArkansas is a coalition of educators and businessmen who are working for changes in state law to allow public school districts to connect to the already existing Arkansas Research Education Optical Network or ARE-ON. That statewide broadband network is currently reserved by state law for public universities and two-year colleges.

The telephone number for the teleconference is (877) 229-8493. Callers will be asked for a pass code. That pass code is 113050, according to a news release issued Wednesday by the FasterArkansas organization.

Those who will respond to questions during the teleconference are Jerry Jones, chairman of FasterArkansas; Kathy Smith, vice chairman of FasterArkansas; Kendall Gibbons, a vice president of Arvest Bank, and David Rainey, superintendent of the Dumas School District.
